4:00 – 7:00 pm at GPRA
Come and go between 4 and 7 pm and tour the lighted trees on the Pioneer Loop at Government Peak Recreation Area (GPRA).
The Pioneer Loop is suitable for all levels of skiers. Walkers and bikers are welcome. This is a free event. All are welcome!
The holidays are a time for lights, fun, and skiing! We want to encourage folks to get out and enjoy a gentle ski tour, walk, or bike on the Pioneer loop which is less than 1.5 miles in length and view decorated trees while doing so. Our hope is to have businesses/groups sponsor the trees and be at their tree the evening of December 23rd to meet and greet folks which will help promote their business. There will be warm drinks, cheer and more!
GPRA is located at the foot of the Talkeetna Mountains, a short easy drive from Palmer or Wasilla. From Palmer, take the Glenn Hwy a few mikes east before turning left (look for signs to Hatcher Pass) on to the Palmer-Fishhook Rd. for 7.5 miles. Turn left on Edgerton Parks Rd. and immediately go over a bridge above the Little Su River. After a mile turn right on N. Mountain Trails Drive which ends a mile later at the GPRA Chalet. From Wasilla, take Wasilla-Fishhook Road north about 15 miles until it ends in a T junction. Turn left on to the Palmer-Fishhook Rd and go about a half mile, then take a left on to Edgerton Parks Rd. After a mile turn right on to N. Mountain Trails Drive.
We have trees available for sponsorship located on the Pioneer Loop at the Government Peak Recreation Area. All funds go to support grooming and trail development for the Mat-Su Ski Club.
Sponsors may choose their own decorations and those decorations may include lights, ornaments, ribbon, etc. Be creative and have fun! After touring the trees, participants
will be asked to vote for their favorite tree and the winner will receive a prize from the ski club!
Tree sponsorship recommended at $100. Non-profit organizations are welcome to a tree with any donation. The Mat-Su Ski Club is a 501(c)(3) and your sponsorship is tax deductible.
