Thanks to the Palmer Community Foundation we have a limited selection of rental skis, boots, and poles available to club members and people taking Adult or SKI101 lessons.

Adult lessons are open to members of the Mat-Su Ski Club. If you are not already, please become a member before registering for ski lessons. You must be logged into your Mat Su Ski Club account before making purchases.

Skiing Level Descriptions

FIRST-TIME SKIERS: Previous experience on skis is not required for our beginner classes.  However, if you have never been on Nordic skis and want to learn the fundamentals about the equipment and how to stay upright on skis before you shop or start skiing – we suggest you take our Ski101 class before your lesson. Look in the Ski101 tab on this page.  We have a very limited supply of skis for those that do not have their own equipment.

BEGINNER SKIERS: If you have been on Nordic skis, but are not entirely comfortable and need instruction on basic techniques, please select from the following options for classic (diagonal stride) and skate skiing classes. You may register for up to five classes in each technique and will be charged $15 for each class.

INTERMEDIATE SKIERS:  We are only offering intermediate classes in skate skiing.  If you are comfortable on skate skis but want to improve your technique or learn new skills, this class is for you.  You may register for up to five classes and will be charged $15 for each class.

Ski101 - first-time skiers read this

Folks who are new to Nordic skiing will benefit from a Ski101 class before on-snow lessons.

The Mat-Su Ski Club in cooperation with Backcountry Bike and Ski plans to offer a Ski 101 class in January, at a date to be announced.  The class will cover equipment and basic skiing techniques in a classroom or virtual setting.  Please add your name to the waitlist and we will notify you when the class is scheduled.  Pending conditions, we also hope to offer an on-snow lesson as part of the class.   The class is free and we hope to see you there!

Covid Safety Requirements: Please Read and Agree Below

To reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission to others we ask that you follow CDC guidelines and :

  • Not attend a class if you have any COVID-19 symptoms (loss of smell, chest congestion, fever, headache or body aches, coughing, sore throat, nausea or diarrhea).
  • Not attend a class if in the previous 10 days you have been in close contact with someone that has tested positive for COVID-19, and you have not had a COVID-19 vaccination.
  • If you have a positive test for COVID-19, please do not attend a class until 14 days after your test, and you do not have symptoms of COVID-19.
  • If you develop COVID-19 symptoms within two days after attending a class, please contact jerry.hupp@matsuski.org so that we can alert others in the class to possible exposure.
  • During classes, please maintain a separation of 6’ or more from others not of your household.
  • Please wear a face covering when 6’ separation is not possible.
  • I understand that classes may be postponed or cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The Mat-Su Ski Club will issue refunds for any unused sessions in the event of cancellations related to COVID-19
