The Mat-Su Ski Club is accepting applications for a Race Director for our Nordic ski races on a contract basis.

The Mat-Su Ski Club has several series of races throughout the ski season.

Our new Northern Light Series consists of three races.  These races are part of a series that includes the two Icicle Double races and points are accumulated for all races and a winner of the series is announced at the end of the season.

Our Mat-Su Icicle Double is a series of two races the weekend after Christmas. This has been our most attended series of races with about 50 racers each day. Total time of the two races determine the placing of the top three skiers for men and women.

We contract with the Mat-Su Borough School District for four high school races.

The expected hours for each race are:

Northern Lights Series

13 1/3 hours/race (includes prerace promotion)

10% of entry fee

Mat-Su Icicle Double

20 hours/race (includes prerace promotion)

10% of net profits. Last year, net profits were about $500

High School Races

20 hours/race

 

 

The nominal pay rate is $20/hour, depending on experience. Billing will be for actual hours.

RACE DIRECTOR’S ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • ·         Has overall responsibility for each race
  • ·         Communicate with the Mat-Su Race Committee
  • ·         Coordinate with high school athletic directors and coaches
  • ·         Promote races including requesting donations from sponsors
  • ·         Coordinate with race timer and volunteers before, during, and after the race
  • ·         Adherence to high school rules and regulations for high school races

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  •         High School Diploma
  •         Ability to focus for extended periods of time and as well as multitask
  •         Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  •         Ability to work well under pressure
  •         Ability to communicate and work with others
  •         Able to safely lift heavy items
  •         Able to work outdoors for multiple hours in all weather conditions
  •         Preferred: Knowledge of Nordic skiing rules and regulations
  •         Preferred: Experience in Nordic skiing and racing

  •         Operate equipment and software
  •         Record/post results and update website
  •         Troubleshooting

  •         Preferred: Experience in Nordic skiing and racing

  •         Able to work outdoors for multiple hours in all weather conditions
