We are hiring a Race Director and Timer

The Mat-Su Ski Club is accepting applications for a Race Director and a Chief Timer for our Nordic ski races on a contract basis.

Deadlines for Submission is Extended to December 1, 2019

We are looking for a Race Director and Chief Timer (two different positions) for our Northern Light Series and four high school races in 2020.

Our new Northern Light Series consists of three races. Points are accumulated for all races and a winner of the series is announced at the end of the season.

We contract with the Mat-Su Borough School District for four high school races.

 Race Director Details

The expected hours are:

Northern Lights Series

12 hours/race (includes prerace promotion)

10% of entry fees

High School Races

20 hours/race

The nominal pay rate is $20/hour, depending on experience. Billing will be for actual hours.

RACE DIRECTOR’S ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Has overall responsibility for each race
  • Communicate with the Mat-Su Race Committee
  • Coordinate with high school athletic directors and coaches
  • Promote races including requesting donations from sponsors
  • Coordinate with race timer and volunteers before, during, and after the race
  • Adherence to high school rules and regulations for high school races
RACE DIRECTOR'S POSITION REQUIREMENTS
      • High School Diploma
      • Ability to focus for extended periods of time and as well as multitask
      • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
      • Ability to work well under pressure
      • Ability to communicate and work with others
      • Able to safely lift heavy items
      • Able to work outdoors for multiple hours in all weather conditions
      • Preferred: Knowledge of Nordic skiing rules and regulations
      • Preferred: Experience in Nordic skiing and racing

        Chief Timer Details

        The number of expected hours for the races are:

        Northern Lights Series

        2 hours/race

        High School Races

        10 hours/race

        The nominal pay rate is $20/hour, depending on experience. Billing will be for actual hours.

        CHIEF TIMER ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

        • Set up and tear down all equipment
        • Operate equipment and software
        • Record/post results and update website
        • Troubleshooting

        CHIEF TIMER POSITION REQUIREMENTS

        • High School Diploma
        • Must have basic knowledge of computers and software programs
        •  Ability to focus for extended periods of time and as well as multitask
        • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
        • Ability to work well under pressure
        • Ability to communicate and work with others
        • Preferred: Knowledge of Nordic Skiing rules and regulations
        • Preferred: Experience in Nordic skiing and racing
        • Able to safely lift heavy equipment to transport and assemble cameras and computers
        • Able to work outdoors for multiple hours in all weather conditions
