Starting in 2020, the Mat-Su Ski Club is introducing the Northern Lights Cup series of races.

Here's your chance to enjoy a great ski with others in our ski community here in the Mat-Su. Want to have an active Sunday afternoon? Have great groomed trails for a ski? Enjoy the scenery at The Peak? Whether you ski in fancy skin suits or in old woolly knickers, our Sunday afternoon Cup races are just for you. For those who need the incentive of competition, points are accumulated throughout 3  races and a Cup winner will be announced at the last race. All races are wave start.

We have three categories of racers with both men's and women's divisions:

Youth 12 and under;     Student 13-24;    Adult 25 and up.    (Ages are as of 12/31/2019).

You can enter all days or just individual races.

Northern Light Cup points will be awarded to everyone who finishes a race.

Do you have your thinking cap on? Points are calculated by taking your race time and dividing by the average time of the top 3 finishers in your race. For the longest race course the result will be multiplied by 100. For shorter races, the result will be multiplied by the ratio of your race distance divided by the distance of the longest race. Men and women points will be calculated separately. For determining overall end-of-season Anchorage Cup winners, each person’s top 2 point values out of 3 points races will be totaled.

Points = (AvgTop3/Time) x (Dist/MaxDist ) x 100

Points = Northern Lights Cup Race Points

AvgTop3 = Average time of the top 3 finishers in your race

Time = Your time

Dist = Your Course distance

MaxDist = The maximum course distance

Example: If you raced in the 5K (Dist = 5 K) wave in the January 11 race and the top three finishers in the 5K race averaged 25 minutes, then the AvgTop3 = 25 minutes. If your time  for the 5K was 30 minutes (Time = 3 minutes), and since the longest race for January 11 is 10K = MaxDist, then

(25/30) x (5/10) x 100 = 41.67 points
