NOTICE from the Mat-Su Borough:

GPRA TRAIL CLOSURE DURING AWG

The Mat-Su Borough is closing all trails at Government Peak Recreation Area to regular public use from March 10 – 15 for the Arctic Winter Games.
The closure includes all skiing, biking, and hiking trails. Pedestrian-only spectator areas will be available during the Games. The Borough plans to reopen GPRA to general use on March 16.
We enthusiastically welcome the circumpolar collection of young athletes to the Mat-Su, and we thank you for your patience and sharing. Spectators are welcome to attend on foot, no skis, and only within designated spectator areas. Only volunteers, coaches, officials, and athletes may be in non-spectator-designated areas.
During this time we will strive to keep the groomed ski trails at Independence Mine, Archangel Road, and the Moose Range in fine condition for your enjoyment.
Thank you for your understanding.
If you have any questions, contact the Mat-Su Borough at 907-861-8578.
Hey spectators, stop by the Mat-Su Ski Club tent at the GPRA trailhead during the Games on Tuesday or Thursday. We have new merch in stock!

A Celebration of Community at our Annual Ski for Women Event

On February 11th, we gathered for our annual Ski for Women event, enveloped in warmth and community spirit. Donning vibrant costumes, we embarked on a day filled with laughter and joy, blessed by the sun's gentle rays and spring-like temperatures.
As we glided through the pristine trails, fresh tracks and sun breaks and spring temps greeted us, enhancing the magic of the day. Afterward, we gathered in the Chalet, where a delightful spread awaited us - from comforting soups to delectable desserts, each bite savored amidst the camaraderie of our fellow attendees.

More than a ski event, it was a heartfelt celebration of our ski community. Together, we shared moments of warmth and connection while supporting a worthy cause, raising awareness and vital funds for the Women's shelter in Palmer through Alaska Family Services. To all who contributed to this unforgettable day, we extend our deepest gratitude. Your presence and support made it a true success!

Junior Nordics finishes strong!

Junior Nordics concludes a season of learning and racing, highlighted by the success of our "Finisher Series," now in its second year. This series of three races has become a favorite among young skiers and families, providing an introductory racing experience that emphasizes fun and completion while building confidence. Notably, the series has not only engaged parents as volunteers but also strengthened our volunteer base for larger events. In addition to the Finisher Series, our season wrapped up with an ice cream party and field day, celebrating the participants, our coaches, and the families whose support sustains our cherished program. We're deeply grateful to our program manager, Stephanie LaRousse, whose dedication has made this season truly unforgettable. Here's to many more seasons of fun skiing adventures!

Trail Discovery Day

We are thankful for the collaborative efforts between the Mat-Su Trails and Parks Foundation and Revel Treks and Tours for hosting a day dedicated to trails and the many other wonderful organizations that joined us at the GPRA trailhead for a day of community and camaraderie. A snowy day of memories was made, and we look forward to more opportunities like this one. Cheers to everyone who came out!

Adult Ski Lessons Success!

A shout-out of appreciation to the invaluable expertise and commitment of our Adult lesson coaches. These volunteers helped many new skiers learn and improve the basics of Nordic classic and skate skiing. If you took one or more lessons this season, we hope you are more confident on the trails and enjoyed your time with these fine folks. Thank you to our dedicated coaches for their outstanding contributions to our skiing community.
