Pre-Season Nordic Training

We are pumped to let you know about a new adult program this season that starts tomorrow evening 6pm, October 3rd! Coaches Daryl Farrens and Lorene Lynn are instructing a pre-season clinic to get you in shape for the ski season. This class offers eight, 90-minute sessions that all take place on the trail system at GPRA. To help get you in shape, you will work through a series of drills that will strengthen your core and balance and whip you right into shape for ski season, which is only a few weeks away. This exclusive member benefit program is for adult skiers of all levels.
Limited spots are available and just a few spots remain! We hope to ski ya there!

It's a necessary step to ensure we can continue providing a safe and enjoyable experience by replacing and maintaining our equipment. Season Launch and Autumn Gathering

Calling all community members and outdoor enthusiasts!

Join us at the GPRA Chalet on October 28th, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., for our fall social. It's a fantastic opportunity to mingle with familiar faces and make some wonderful new connections.

If you believe your chili recipe is a crowd-pleaser, don't miss the chance to show it off in our friendly contest. Get ready for some chili showdown fun! Plus, get ready for some games, and don't forget to explore our exclusive limited edition SWAG available for purchase. Grab your membership in advance or at the event, and you'll automatically enter a drawing to win one of three exciting prizes.

We will share the accomplishments of this year and unveil our exciting plans for the next season (but we will not be holding board of directors elections, as that has been shifted to a spring Annual Meeting). This event is open to all, and the best part? It's completely free! Let's create lasting memories together!

Trail Counters

If you see one of these little items trail side - they are just passive infrared heat sensors. The devices are not cameras - they are like the motion sensor on a night light, but with a counter instead of a lightbulb.

Counting trail users helps support our never-ending search for funding to maintain and improve your trails.

Surprisingly, our counter on the Blueberry Knoll trail indicated a near 100% increase in summertime trail use on the BBK trail between 2021 and 2023. While winter use of the Nordic trails has increased perhaps 15% over the same span. Now oddly, the BBK trail counter seems to have departed the area, before we could move it to its wintering grounds on Archangel Road. It's a plucky little counter, it survived being slammed by the epic spring 2021 Marmot avalanches, being left open in the rain by a trail miscreant, and having one of our volunteers inadvertently drive a screw through it's cable, so we hope it finds its way home.

Seeking Holiday Elves

Did you experience the magic of the Holiday Tree Tour in December last year on foot or on skis? Did you love it? If you were enchanted by the magic and have a genuine passion for spreading holiday cheer, we want you on our Tree Tour committee! Become one of our Pioneer Loop Elves and contribute your time and ideas to make this growing community event even more amazing.
Just reply to this email to discover how you can get involved!

End of the Iron Ranger

The Mat-Su Borough will soon be removing the old-school cash-in-a-paper envelope pay station at the upper GPRA parking lot. A new electronic pay-for-parking station is already installed in front of the Chalet. This machine accepts credit and debit cards only. Annual Mat-Su Borough Parks parking passes go on sale December 1st each year and can be purchased on the Borough's website.

Moose Range Planning

A Public Comment period is now open for the new Draft Management Plan for the Matanuska Moose Range. As you may already be aware, the Moose Range is one of the areas where we provide support for trail grooming, mapping, and grooming reports. This area is important to many of our community friends. Click the button to read the draft plan and share your valuable feedback, if you care about the Moose Range. Additionally, a list of scheduled public meetings is available for you to attend and make your comments count. Thank you for your participation and input!
