Junior Nordics Registration

Junior Nordics registration is just around the corner. Folks planning to join the program will need to purchase a MSSC family membership before registering for Junior Nordics. Junior Nordics registration dates are on September 7th for returning skiers and September 14th for new skiers. The website offers a new FAQ page to answer your questions. You will also find step by step instructions on how to register along with other helpful information and resources.

Junior Nordics sessions will begin on January 11th, 2023 for Monday/Wednesday classes and January 12th for Tuesday/Thursday classes. New this year and included in your registration are four Finisher Race Series events. Kids will have an opportunity to come on out to GPRA on four different Sunday afternoons to be a part of a fun race that will help them use some of the skiing skills they are learning in classes and enjoy some extra friend time. All Finishers will be rewarded for their efforts!

Seeking Committee Members

Junior Nordics is a massive undertaking and only made possible by volunteers like you! We are recruiting Junior Nordics Steering Committee members for this season. These volunteers meet a few times each season and help with one or more of the following... Direct and organize parent volunteers starting with the first night of orientation, oversee ski rentals and ski return, help with the Junior Nordic race series and planning the end of season party and Coach appreciation. These volunteers do not need to know how to ski or know about ski equipment. Making new friends in the ski community is just one of the many perks of joining this committee. We are looking for several new members so grab a friend and send an email to Allison.Fry@matsuski.org.

Meet Your MSSC Staff

Your Mat-Su Ski Club is growing and has added some new staff members.

Stephanie Larousse, pictured here with her adorable grandson, is the Junior Nordics Manager. Stephanie joined us last season and led us through an incredibly fun season of Junior Nordics. Her love of skiing started with her own kids as a Junior Nordics volunteer and now she is on her skis daily in winter. Stephanie spent the past four years as a head coach so overseeing the program has been a natural transition. Stephanie brings an infectious energy of positivity to Junior Nordics.

Ida Gullett joined us as Race Director for the 2021 race season. Ida has been involved with xc skiing all her life. She skied for Homer High and then went on to ski in college at Western State in Gunnison, CO. She coached the Homer High ski team. She is now teaching her two kids to love the sport and finding it’s a great way to spend family time together. Ida is excited for the race season to start and hopes to get lots more folks to come on out to the community races!

Marla Jakab is the MSSC Administrator. She joined us just over a year ago. She handles a lot of what happens behind the scenes at the ski club. From membership, email, donations, paperwork and insurance to newsletters and social media to name a few. In winter you will often find her planning her day around groomed trails and sunshine. She is seriously addicted to snow!

Remember Your Parking Passes

Just a friendly reminder to be sure you have your parking pass for GPRA and other Borough park sites. The parking fees go into a Borough fund for recreational facilities and does not pay for trail grooming. Click here to buy a day use or yearly MSB parking pass online. Save $10 when you buy two.

Alaska State annual parking passes may only be purchased online. This parking pass is used for Archangel Road and Independence Mine when accessible, among many other AK State Parks. Click here to visit the 2022 Annual Parking Pass ordering page.

Daily parking passes may be purchased at any MSB or AK State trailhead for $5.
